Replacing SteelTrak cutter head return spring

Before you start

Before starting any work, check the machine is firmly fixed to the wall or freestanding leg and that you have the following equipment:

  • 4mm Allen (hex) key

1. Place the head in the rest position and remove broken spring

Make sure the cutting head is in its rest position and not pushed forward and being held by the ratchet. It gives better access and is easier if the black plastic guard is removed.

When removing the spring anchor, be careful to not drop the washer that is between the spring anchor and the main aluminium plate.

2. Replace spring

Wind the spring onto the spring anchor, then wind the spring into the holes on the swinging arm plate.

3. Re-attach the spring anchor

Re-attach the spring anchor, ensuring the washer is replaced between the spring anchor and the main aluminium plate. Using the 4mm Allen key, offer the screw to the hole at an angle, push it gently into the hole and bring it perpendicular to the aluminium plate to align the thread, then rotate the screw. Do not tighten the screw fully at this stage.

4. Fully tighten screw

Push the swinging arm forward to the full extent of the ratchet, then tighten the screw fully.
