My apologies if this is a stupid question as I’m new to this craft. I have ordered the squaring arm for my Sabre 2 and I’m wondering what the intended setup is for the measuring tape that comes in the package. Since the start of the arm is a few centimeters from the actual cutter groove, what are the intended steps for measuring out a length? If I use the measure scale on the arm, I’m always going to have some excess (the distance between the start of the arm and the cutting groove). For example if I want to cut a 24″x30 piece of foamcore with this setup, what would the intended steps be (outside of using another measuring device to trace out the size).
Hi, Sorry to be slow replying, the scale on the arm allows for the gap between the end of the arm and the cut line. So, in your example you would set the stop on the arm for 24″ and 30″ accordingly.
I must have received a different scale, mine started at 1″ so setting the stop to 24″ gives me a cut piece that is 24″+ 1.38″ (the gap between the arm and cutting grove).
Also, on another but related note, the design/screws provided with the arm let the user fasten the arm in such a way where it’s not square. There is no sure 90 degree angle that the hardware sets itself into when the screws are fastened. I had to use a woodworking square to adjust the squaring arm to be perpendicular to the cutting groove.
Did you follow the instruction manual, there is a card in with the product with a QR code to take you to it, page 4.2 explains the setting up. Go here to see it.
I did not see this, but basically did the same thing on my own thinking I have “cheated” my way to getting the measurements that I want. I assumed things would have come pre measured but if this is how it’s intended to be used I guess all is well.
Thank you for your help/clarification. Love the machine overall.
