Evolution3 SmartFold: Diagnosing & troubleshooting technical issues - Newly Installed

This page is designed to assist with the diagnosis and troubleshooting of issues related to newly installed Evolution3 SmartFold machines only. If you have an older machine that has been in use for several years, please refer to this page instead >

Please look through the sections below to identify the issue that most closely matches your problem. You will find information on possible causes and guidance on how to resolve the issue.

1. LEVERS

Issue Usual reason & outcome Where to find information
1A Something is wrong with my levers
1B My levers don’t fit correctly (see 1D)
1C My levers are sitting at an angle
Handles have been fitted incorrectly or the wrong way round. If the handles are forced into an incorrect position the end block will become damaged and the warranty voided. In severe cases parts may need replacing. Refer to 4.1 in the manual >

Or watch this video on fitting the levers >

1D My levers don’t fit in the gap available A little space in the gap is needed after transit and install. Easy to rectify. See a short guide on how to fix this issue >

2. LIFT-AND-HOVER

Issue  Usual reason & outcome Where to find information
2A My clamp won’t stay lifted when I raise it
2B My machine is hard to raise and lower
Usually, the machine just needs some slight adjustment after transit and installation. Refer to 4.2 in the manual >

3. CLAMP

Issue Usual reason & outcome Where to find information
3A My clamp is not flat along the length
3B I can see a gap at some point along my clamp
3C My clamp is not holding my material tight at some point along the length
The machine is not correctly installed. Use the manual to test for areas that can be improved Refer to section 4.3 in the manual >

or watch this video on how to adjust the clamp mechanism >

3D My clamp is sticking as I raise and lower it
3E My clamp is juddering as I raise and lower it
3F My clamp does not move freely up an down
Once the customer works through the guide in most cases this fixes the issue. On occasion a new T-Block is required to solve this issue See guide – Evolution E3 SmartFold – Fixing a sticking clamp

4. BLADE ALIGNMENT IN CUTTING GROOVE

Issue Usual reason & outcome Where to find information
4A The blade does not sit in the groove along the whole length
4B My blade is hitting the base in parts along the length
This is set in the factory so in the majority of instances indicates the bench surface is not level and flat. Refer back to the manual – Section 2 if fitted to a SmartFold bench or Section 3 for a non-Keecnut bench.

On some rare occasions the bench surface is good once checked and the machine has been dislodged in transit and will need adjusting manually. See guide Adjusting The Evolution3 SmartFold slideway.

Section 2 – if fitted to a SmartFold bench >

Section 3 – if fitted to a non-Keencut bench >

This process must be done with caution. Please request our guide for adjusting the Evolution3 SmartFold slideway from [email protected].

5. ONE BLADE DOES NOT ALIGN WITH THE OTHER

Issue Usual reason & outcome Where to find information
5A One blade is hitting the sightline strip and the other one is in the cutting groove
5B One of my graphik blades does not align with the other
5C One of my blades sits further forward/back to the other
This is set in the factory but occasionally needs manual adjustment. Just requires a fine adjustment. Easy to fix See guide – Adjusting the Graphic blade holders to align with each other >

6. BLADE RETRACTION

Issue Usual reason & outcome Where to find information
6A One of my two blades does not retract after pressing it down
6B One of my two blades is difficult to get back up once pressed down
Just requires a fine adjustment on the side that is sticking. See guide – Adjusting the blade clamping in E3 Graphik head >
