When we spotted a note on social media from Tim Girvan of Signtrade, Bedford, telling us that he was delighted with his new Keencut Simplex, we got straight on the phone. It is essential for us to receive customer feedback from both established Keencut customers and first-time users. We wanted to ask Tim how the Simplex was performing and whether it had met his expectations.
Tim told us that he had been thinking about buying a cutter for years, ‘it seemed like an expensive bit of kit to just cut straight lines, but as soon as you’ve got one, you realise you wish you had spent the money years ago.’
Like many people, Tim had been using a ruler and a knife to cut materials and admitted that the problem was one of safety and reliability, as it was difficult to cut a straight line over long a distance. He bought the Simplex to provide the level of accuracy required to cut wallpapers and big graphics.
Tim started Signtrade in 1987, offering traditional signwriting services to local businesses. Over the years, Signtrade has evolved, alongside developments in the industry, and now provides the wide range of products and services that you would expect from a modern-day sign shop.
Tim chose the Simplex model that fitted his bench as he realised that he could feed materials along if he needed an extended cut. He said that his real reason for buying a Simplex ‘was the peace of mind that I know I am getting a straight edge.’ Although Tim has not had the Simplex very long, he has found it much quicker than his previous finishing method and much more accurate. After research, Tim chose a Keencut cutter because of the quality of the brand, stating that ‘I should have bought one years ago.’
